The Centre for Music, Plastic Arts, and Personal Development “Heptachor” together with the Laboratory of Free Dance of the International Festival of Authentic Music and Theatre Art “Moskovskoe Deistvo” present a new project

The Festival of Synthetic Art "Transfiguration by Sound"

The Laboratory’s new project, though on a smaller scale, is no less ambitious than the the large-scale festival, “Moskovskoe Deistvo-2005”, which brought together 26 groups and individual performers from 16 countries. This year we wanted to have a break, but, with our overflowing enthusiasm for free dance it does not seem possible! We are therefore organising a small festival – two days of performances, master-classes and demonstrations – around the theme, “Transfiguration by Sound”.

  • We intend to explore the ways in which sound and movement can transform people’s lives, help them be more creative, heal some of their psychological pains and help bring up their children. A hundred years ago, the Russian composer, Alexander Scriabin, wrote a musical piece, “The Poem of Ecstasy”. He believed that it would have an almost magic power to transform the world. Scriabin had a synthetic vision: he saw each sound having a particular colour, and he sought to combine both with dance. He dreamt of a grandiose performance; a century later, we decided to realise his vision.
  • The first free dance performance of “The Poem of Ecstasy” was on 6 July, 2005, at the Great Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow, where seven Russian groups and a symphony orchestra performed in the presence of over two thousand people. At the coming festival, we would like to repeat its success and show it to another audience at another venue – at the renowned Anatoly Vassiliev Theatre-School of Drama Art.
  • Besides the dance performance, the festival will include workshops and master-classes on dance and music therapy by various practitioners, including those who treat children with cerebral palsy and autism and those who help adults. They will demonstrate the power of sound and movement over illness and the role which music and dance can play in improving people’s lives.
  • We are in the process of fundraising for the festival; the goal we hope to reach is 416800 roubles (about $ 15000); the detailed budget is attached. We will of course be pleased to make appropriate acknowledgement of our sponsors.
