7 January: An Open Class of Musical Movement

Aida Ailamazian's open class of musical movement at the great hall of the Waldorf School in Moscow, on 7 January, attracted a small crowd of participants and spectators. Everybody was lively and joyful. The class was followed by a joint performance by Heptachor and Maria Ganeshina's Vocal Studio, to the music by Mozart and Chopin.


5-7 September 2008: The Second Musical Movement and Dance Festival, "Terpsichore in Tauris-II", in Chersonesos Taurica

Follwing a very successfull last year festival, the Center "Heptachor", with the support from the Department for Culture and Tourism of the City Government of Sevastopol and Directorate of the National preserve Chersonesos Taurica, organises 5-7 September, 2008, the second festival in the legendary Chersonesos Taurica, an Ancient Greek city near Sevastopol (the Crimea, Ukraine). Master classes in musical movement and Alekseeva Gymnastics will be followed by two gala-concerts at the Greek amphitheater, built 4th century B.C. and reconstructed for theatre activities. To travel to Ukraine, westerners do not need a visa. We are happy to provide our guests with instructions about getting to the place and finding budget accommodation.


23 July 2008: Heptachor at the International Festival of Experimental Art

Heptachor, the Studio of Musical Movement headed by Aïda Ailamasian and the Vocal Studio of Maria Ganeshina performed at the 7th International Festvial of Experimental Art in Saint-Petersburg. The festival was between 19 and 28 July and took place at the [1] Central Exhibition Hall "Manege"] at the heart of the city, next to Saint Isaak Cathedral and the Bronze Horseman on the bank of the Neva river. Heptachor's performance was to the music by Stravinsky and Russian folk songs.


15 May 2008: The Stravinsky Premier

Heptachor touched the the great modernist classics by performing to Igor Starvinsky's THE RITE OF SPRING (Second Part) on May 15 at the Dom Cultural Center in Moscow. The programme, in which Maria Ganeshina's Vocal Studio took a creative part, also included DANCING CHORUSES (to Russain folk songs) and THE GIRL'S SONG from Stravinsky's opera, "Mavra".



16 January: Forgotten Dance of the Silver Age

The turn of the twentieth century in Russia is famous as the Silver Age of art for its explosion of creativity in various areas. Dance was its part. A guided tour of the Silver Age Museum, by Irina Sirotkina, on 16 January 2008, focused on the history of modern dance. It was followed by a performance by dancers and musicians from Heptachor, the Studio of Musical Movement, Ludmila Alexeeva’s School of Movement, and the Vocal Studio of Maria Ganeshina, demonstrating pieces of early twentieth-century choreography as well as original work and vocal pieces. The museum is the house of Valerii Brusov, a celebrated Russian Symbolist poet.


Presentation of Stefanida Rudneva's memoirs

Long-awaited edition of the Memoirs of A Happy Person, by the founder of the musical movement, Stefanida Rudneva (1890-1989), recently came out of the Moscow Archive Publishing House. This luxurious and richly illustrated edition presents many documents that shed light on the fascinating history of Heptachor, the Studio of Musical Movement, that Rudneva and her friends founded in 1914. The presentation of Rudneva's memoirs on December 21, 2007, at the Inter-club of the Moscow Peoples' Friendship University, was attended by her numerous students and followers and completed by a concert of musical movement groups of all ages.


Heptachor in performance at the Institute of World Literatures

On 12 October, 2007, at the International Conference, European Sources of the Concept of Culture at the Institute of World Literatures in Moscow, Heptachor member, Irina Sirotkina, gave a paper, Dance between culture and civilisation: Reforming dance in Russia, 1900-1924, followed by a lively performance by Heptachor.


First Musical Movement and Dance Festival, "Terpsichore in Tauris", in Chersonesos Taurica

On 4-9 September, 2007, the Centre for Development through Music and Dance "Heptachor", Moscow, with the support from the Department for Culture and Tourism of the City Government of Sevastopol and Directorate of the National preserve Chersonesos Taurica, has organised a festival in the legendary Chersonesos, a national natural and cultural preserve near Sevastopol (the Crimea, Ukraine). Master classes in the musical movement, Alexeva Gymnastics and other movement techniques were followed by a gala concert of all participants at the ancient amphitheater. Article by the Late Dr Gedeon Dienes

One of the founders and ardent promoters of modern dance in Hungary, Dr Gedeon Dienes made one of his last presentations at the conference, Free Dance: History, Philosophy and Further Developments in the framework of the festival, "Moskovskoe deistvo-2005". Afterward Gedeon Pavlovich, as he called himself informally in Russian ways, sent us a letter together with the updated version of his conference paper, Early Days of Modern Dance in Hungary.
